Jesus told many parables about the Kingdom of God – he compared it to a costly pearl, a hidden treasure, and a mustard seed. But its meaning is still sometimes hard to grasp. After his resurrection, his disciples asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6), but Jesus’ answer revealed that the disciples had still not really understood the meaning of the Kingdom of God. Americans have not lived under a human king since the Revolutionary War of 1776. So, how can we understand the Kingdom of God? Come this Sunday, as we think about what it means to call Jesus “King.”
