The New Testament book of Acts tells of Paul’s ministry in Corinth. There, Paul planted a church of primarily Gentile believers in one of the most challenging environments to live a Christian life. Corinth was a city of great wealth, but also a city of great debauchery. Modern scholars have often referred to it as the “Sin City” of the ancient world. Paul wrote two letters to Corinth that are part of our New Testament. In these letters, Paul gives guidance and advice about navigating the life of a disciple in a difficult culture. Many of the challenges the Corinthian church faced are very relevant to 21st-century discipleship.
